The famous cartoonist Anders Andersö has died, reports Svenska Dagbladet.

Andersö, who was nicknamed “Tecknar-Anders”, joined SvD in 1957 and stayed until 2002, but continued to supply drawings to the newspaper afterwards. He also published books with his best drawings.

Andersö was awarded the Grand Journalist Prize in 1995, the Swedish Olympic Committee Medal in 1994 and the King's Medal in 2004.

"No one else could draw pictures of historical events with the same accurate observational skills, regardless of whether it was about politics, culture or sports," writes SvD .

In an interview with SvD in 2020, he told how he was encouraged to start selling his drawings as a child.

"I came across a Christmas book with Rit-Ola's work. It was an eye-opener," Andersö said, referring to DN cartoonist Jan-Erik Garland.

Andersö began his career at the Jämtland Länstidningen, then moved on to Aftonposten in Gothenburg and then to Svenska Dagbladet.

"Tecknar-Anders" turned 95.
