There was a clear outclassing in the final's last round. Hellvig/Åhman managed to score a match-winning 15 points, while the pairs from Austria (Tim Berger/Timo Hammerberg) and Norway (Anders Mol/Christian Sørum) finished with one point each.
We found some energy there. Maybe it was the support from the stands that gave us the strength to fight our way to the finish line, says Åhman.
Around 4,000 people went to Avicii Arena on Thursday night to cheer on the Swedes.
We enjoyed every second and hope we get the chance to play here again, says Hellvig.
The Swedish World Championship silver medalists - “young guns” Jacob Hölting Nilsson and Elmer Andersson also made it to the final, but were eliminated in the second round.
The women's Queen of the Court was decided earlier on Thursday. Norway won ahead of Finland, with the Swedish duo Isabelle Reffell and Tina Thurin in third place.
The exhibition tournament differs from matches on the beach volleyball world tour. Several teams compete to score as many points as possible during a 15-minute round, with the possibility of scoring points on only one side of the court, the so-called “Kingside”.
The tournament in Stockholm is the first of its kind in Sweden, and the largest Kings of the Court competition ever organized.
