The stands were sparse at Stade de France, but the boos were still loud when the Israeli national anthem was played before the Nations League match between France and Israel.
A bit into the first half, it also got a bit messy in the stands when a small number of fans from both teams clashed.
The match was surrounded by a large security deployment with around 4,000 police officers deployed on the streets of Paris before kick-off. This was after the violence in Amsterdam last week, when Ajax hosted Israeli club team Maccabi Tel Aviv.
The risk of new unrest seems to have scared off a lot of football fans, and the large arena in northern Paris was not even half full. Israel is reported to have had around 150 fans in place.
The match ended 0–0 after Israel's Daniel Peretz made some crucial saves when France was chasing a winning goal.
Sandro Tonali became the match hero for Italy when he scored the only goal in the 1–0 win away against Belgium. Italy thus leads the group in the Nations League A-division, three points ahead of France, ahead of the top nations' meeting in the group final in Milan on Sunday.
