Bonnie Tyler was one of the king's favourite artists, the court says. According to Kulturnytt, the royal couple acquired a dog in 2025 that was named Bonnie.
"The Royal Family has been reached by the sad news that Bonnie Tyler has passed away. It is always sad when people leave us. She was a fantastic and much-loved singer who was active and influential during the King's upbringing," the court writes in its statement.
Anders Tengner, who was editor of Okej in the 1980s, remembers Bonnie Tyler as a talented singer who became an unlikely star.
The amazing thing about Bonnie Tyler was that she had a voice that actually felt quite unlikely to become so big. She sang well, but she had such an incredibly raspy voice that you thought she had drunk a bottle of whiskey and smoked a pack of cigarettes before she went into the studio, which is also why it was so enchanting, says Anders Tengner.
He interviewed Tyler for the magazine Okej in the 1980s, and remembers her as a quick, kind and pleasant woman. A personality that contributed to her success as an artist.
She captivated the audience with her charm rather than with stage show and elaborate clothes. She was a pretty ordinary girl but she had talent, and that takes you far.
Host Gry Forssell met Bonnie Tyler in 2019 when the singer was a guest on "Sommarkrysset" on her own birthday.
Gry Forssell tells Expressen that she "got a pinch in her arm" when Tyler sang "Total eclipse of the heart":
"To be able to sing along to that live, a song that has been there my whole life, it was incredible. So it was a completely unforgettable moment for me," Forssell tells Expressen.
