”Complete madness” – Uli Hoeness, honorary chairman of the German top club Bayern München, does not hold back on the criticism of the buying spree during football's latest transfer window.

I lack words for what has happened in football over the past eight weeks, said Hoeness at a conference arranged by the German football league DFL.

Only the clubs in the Premier League are reported to have spent the equivalent of 43 billion kronor on new players.

Some time people will say "have they completely lost it."

Several of the largest transfers have concerned players who have left the German Bundesliga for the Premier League.

Among other things, Bayer Leverkusen sold Florian Wirtz to Liverpool for the equivalent of 1.5 billion kronor.

The most expensive one, however, was another Liverpool acquisition – Alexander Isak who cost 1.6 billion kronor when he left Newcastle.
