Take it as a joke, but also read into his heartfelt desire to emerge from the playoffs as a winner.

As a 12-year-old, he followed every match when Sweden reached the quarterfinals at the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

Those memories are etched in my mind.

When the national football team gathered in Valencia, Bardghji jumped in as goalkeeper for fun during Monday's training - and made a really nice save.

"I hope Potter saw it"

"I hope Potter saw it," he says, laughing.

The 20-year-old will of course have a completely different role if the national team coach intends to use him against Ukraine on Thursday.

Graham Potter gave him the start against Slovenia when the World Cup qualifiers ended last fall.

A more likely role in the playoff semi-finals is as a substitute, much like at Barcelona, where he has so far played 396 minutes in 16 La Liga games since his transfer from FC Copenhagen late last summer.

"I'm extremely excited. It feels like everyone is," says Bardghji.

Do you see the match against Ukraine as the most important match of your career?

I don't know. I've played a lot of big games though. For me it's obviously a really important game. I'm grateful for the chance to qualify for the World Cup. We should all be. I've been looking forward to this game for quite some time.

"I adapted quickly"

In Barcelona, a club with a clear identity around how football should be played, Bardghji has become accustomed to all the demands placed on a player at the absolute highest club level.

I've always looked at them and been prepared to end up there one day. It hasn't been difficult. I've adapted quickly.

The contrast to the national team is palpable. Potter is new to his position and only at the beginning of team building. It places completely different demands.

Roony Bardghji believes strongly in finding a community. Then the rest will fall into place.

- We have an idea but we haven't had time to practice it. Then we have to play an important match all of a sudden. It's special but okay.

He was happy when he heard that Potter had extended his contract until 2030.

It's big for Swedish football. He's an incredibly talented coach who has coached several big clubs. It's only positive.

Bardghji sees Sweden as the favorite in the semi-finals, but warns about Ukraine.

It's not a bad opponent. We'll go in with respect. But we believe in ourselves and the quality I think we have.

Should Sweden reach the World Cup in North America, Dallas will be the base.
