The Israeli military explains the attacks as retaliation for aggression from the Iran-backed Shiite militia Hezbollah.
In the past 24 hours, Israel has, among other things, destroyed rocket launchers in several locations, seized an arms depot and killed around 15 Hezbollah members, according to a statement from the military.
Hezbollah, in turn, has both attacked Israeli soldiers in Lebanon and fired rockets across the border at targets in Israel.
Rescue workers killed
Lebanon's Health Ministry said one of Tuesday's Israeli attacks hit a Lebanese Civil Defense response team, killing two rescue workers and a person they were trying to help.
According to the Ministry of Health, a total of 380 people have been killed and over 1,100 injured during the ceasefire that began on April 17. Among them are 22 children who were killed, Save the Children writes in a press release.
A total of nearly 2,900 people have been killed, including around 200 children, since March 2, when a rocket attack by Hezbollah prompted Israel to escalate its military operations in Lebanon. 108 health and emergency workers are also among the dead.
Lebanese Health Minister Rakan Nassereddine condemns "systematic, ongoing attacks on civilians" at a press conference and describes the ceasefire as "fragile and ineffective."
“A hell for Israel”
Hezbollah leader Naim Qassem is threatening to turn the battlefield into "hell" for Israel.
"We will not abandon the battlefield and we will make it hell for Israel," Qassem said in a written statement.
He also says that Hezbollah is not part of the current ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon - or in the upcoming negotiations to extend it.
“This is an internal Lebanese matter and is not part of the negotiations with the enemy,” says Qassem.
A third round of ceasefire negotiations between Lebanon and Israel is planned with the US as mediator in Washington, DC on May 14-15.
