The newspaper has investigated all cases involving young people aged 18 to 21 who applied for a residence permit based on family ties but were rejected in 2025. The investigation shows that of 198 cases, 92 are so-called teenage deportations.

These are young people whose parents have the right to be in Sweden, but who themselves do not meet the requirements for a residence permit when they turn 18 and are therefore deported alone.

Recently, it was announced that the Swedish Migration Board is pausing ongoing cases pending new legislation. However, this does not include cases that have already become legally binding.

Of the 92, at least 63 have been in Sweden for more than five years. At least 60 of them are studying, the majority in high school, according to Aftonbladet.
