Israel's spokesperson Avichay Adraee addresses the residents of the metropolitan area of Khan Yunis and surrounding towns: The Israeli military is about to carry out an operation larger than previous operations.
"Evacuate immediately west to the Mawasi area, Adraee writes on social media.
The military spokesperson refers to previous Israeli reports that rockets have been fired from Gaza towards Israeli territory.
In al-Mawasi, large numbers of fleeing Palestinians are already in tent camps. It is called a safe area, but even there, recurring deadly Israeli air strikes have taken place.
Three Bomb Waves
Israel has continued its attacks on Gaza, and in the past 24 hours, at least 50 people have been killed. Among them are a father and his five children, as well as many women and children.
Israel attacked a residential building in Jabaliya, and a school building in the city of Gaza that was housing internally displaced people. Israel claims that the target in the school was militant Hamas members.
The attacks on the school came in three waves, when people were sleeping, according to reports from Gaza's health authorities controlled by Hamas. Pictures taken by AP show rescue personnel carrying away charred bodies and belongings while trying to extinguish the flames. At least 36 people died in the attack and several dozen were injured.
Israel's military claims that the target was a "leading terrorist" and that there was a military command center inside the school that Hamas and the group Islamic Jihad used to gather intelligence before attacks. Israel blames Hamas for the civilian deaths, citing that the group is "operating in residential areas".
Same Family
In a separate raid on a residential building in Jabaliya, 19 people from the same family were killed, AFP reports, citing the area's civil defense. Among them were five women and two children, according to Shifa Hospital in the city of Gaza that received the remains.
The bloody attacks follow a Sunday where at least 38 people were killed in Israel's attacks, according to medical officials.
In northern Gaza, two of the last functioning hospitals have been surrounded by Israeli forces for several days, preventing people from entering or leaving the buildings.
Since Israel unilaterally broke the ceasefire with Hamas on March 18, approximately 3,800 have been killed in Gaza, according to the Hamas-controlled authorities there.
