Asia's leading stock exchanges started the trading week on different moods since the US had its credit rating lowered by the credit rating company Moody's on Friday.
In Tokyo, the important Nikkei 225 index had lost 0.4 percent after a few hours of trading, while the broader Topix index increased by 0.1 percent.
From Hong Kong, gloomy tones were heard when the Hang Seng decreased.
The Kospi index in South Korea woke up on the wrong side and lost 0.7 percent.
The composite indexes in Shanghai and Shenzhen had a hard time deciding and the two were therefore hovering around zero.
