It was on December 18 that the Land and Environmental Court revoked the permit for Senior Material, ruling that the company's application for an exemption to use the toxic substance was incomplete. At the same time, the case was sent back to the Swedish Chemicals Agency for re-processing.
Senior Material wants the Swedish Chemicals Agency's initial decision to be upheld, while both the municipality and the Society for Nature Conservation in Eskilstuna want the company's application to be rejected completely, reports P4.
However, in order for the case to be heard, the court must first grant leave to appeal.
Senior Material manufactures a component for lithium batteries used in electric cars, among other things. It is prohibited in Sweden to use methylene chloride, a toxic chemical needed for production. Therefore, an exemption is needed, which the Swedish Chemicals Agency granted in September last year.
