In a debate article in Aftonbladet, they write that lowering the age of criminal responsibility, so that 14-year-olds can receive prison sentences, does not solve the problem of young people committing serious crimes. They point to the strong criticism from consultation bodies and the Legal Council.

Behind the appeal are, among others, Maria Frisk, general secretary of Bris, Andreas Holmberg, bishop of the Diocese of Stockholm, David Sausdal, criminologist at Lund University, and Malin Persson Giolito, author and lawyer.

Originally, the government and the SD proposed lowering the age to 13, but they had to back down from the proposal because it was uncertain whether it would receive support in the Riksdag. Now there is a revised proposal that the Riksdag will vote on in August.
