Grahn is primarily known as a sprinter, and it is in that discipline that he has most often appeared in the World Cup.
However, during the U23 World Cup he showed he had mastered more than just short distances.
In the classic-mile race, the Swede was out of the medal spots for a long time. At the halfway point he was close to the top three, but with three kilometers to go he was nine seconds behind the bronze medalist.
But the finish was dramatic. While Grahn increased the pace, Czech Jiri Tuz lost speed - and in the final stages the Swede was able to pass and secure third place.
"It felt like there was a lot of enthusiasm from the start. Very welcome," Grahn told SVT.
The gold went to Finn Niko Anttola, while Norwegian Casper Kvam Grindhage took silver.
