Anne Lagercrantz takes office on November 1. She describes herself as a passionate advocate for public service and believes she has important things to contribute.
We must become obsessed with listening to the audience, behaviors are changing incredibly fast. We have been extremely successful, but see that we have difficulty reaching a younger generation, and we should be for everyone.
She thinks that SVT should stand for "a constructive value in a turbulent time".
It's about everything from traditional programs like the Christmas calendar and Vasaloppet – and I think we've never been as good at Swedish humor as now.
The Defense
At the same time, she highlights SVT's role for the Swedish defense.
We should be a verifying and safe hand with our strong news and social journalism. We should be an independent part of the Swedish defense, democracy becomes better through scrutiny.
She also emphasizes that SVT is working hard to develop a form of verification, to show how a journalistic scrutiny works.
Anne Lagercrantz takes office at a time with major economic challenges. By 2025, SVT will have implemented savings of 400 million kronor, and her predecessor Hanna Stjärne described the coming years as "tough".
I've been part of a management team that has developed a good plan for this. It's clear that it will be tough, but we've come a long way.
"Concerns me"
Stjärne has simultaneously described the public service committee's financing proposal as an "economic rollercoaster" for SVT's part.
It's clearly something that concerns me and a challenge. We see a decline in the economy at the same time as we have significantly increased costs for program production, but also for security and preparedness.
Will it be your biggest challenge?
Our biggest challenge is to maintain relevance for the entire audience.
Anne Lagercrantz stands behind SVT's decision to remove the program "Naked with Stina Wollter" from the schedule since the host was accused of spreading anti-Semitic conspiracy theories on social media – which she later apologized for.
Should it have been recorded?
The recording began before she expressed herself with these anti-Semitic thoughts. We have a principle that everyone has freedom of speech, but if an employee takes a stand in a controversial issue, you can't monitor it. We must also be responsive when new information comes in.
Will the program be broadcast later?
I can't answer that today.
