Expressen was the first to report on the criticism against Anders Byström earlier in March. The opinions have included lack of communication, weak leadership and the handling of Linn Svahn during the Olympics.
The national team manager has now decided to leave his role at the Swedish Ski Association.
"I am proud of my six years as national team manager during which we have achieved incredible success together. We have broken record after record in the championships, dominated the World Cup and created enormous interest around the cross-country national team," he tells the association's website.
"At the same time, it's a challenging job that many people have opinions about. It has required a lot of work, a lot of commitment and a lot of time away from family."
Byström thinks it's a good opportunity to "step down now" to give someone else the chance to invest in the 2030 Olympics.
Cross-country manager Lars Öberg:
"This is a difficult decision for Anders, who has grown following the challenges of the spring. I have full respect for his position," he says.
The association also announced that Anders Högberg, men's coach for six years, is leaving. Women's coach Stefan Thomson had decided to leave his position before the season.
