FA Cup: Painful Sunday for Swedish Profiles

Goal scorer again, but also new concern about Alexander Isak's physical status. The national team striker was forced to leave the pitch at the end of regular match time when Brighton won the FA Cup match against Newcastle after extra time with 2–1. A few hours later, Victor Nilsson Lindelöf missed a penalty when Manchester United fell in a thriller against Fulham.

The national team star Isak did not start in Wednesday's Premier League match against Liverpool due to a minor groin injury. It was unclear for a long time whether he would be able to play in Sunday's cup match in the fifth round.

However, no signs of injury worries were seen during the first half. In addition to the penalty goal, Isak had a goal disallowed for offside. The penalty goal was Isak's 22nd of the season, considering all competitions.

Just before the break, Yankuba Minteh equalized for Brighton, who had the better of the second half.

Gordon Sent Off

Newcastle suffered two heavy offensive setbacks in the end of regular match time. First, Anthony Gordon received a red card, then Isak left the pitch. It did not seem to have any consequences when central defender Fabian Schär scored what he thought was the winning goal in added time.

However, the VAR review showed that the Swiss player was in an offside position.

Gordon's sending off means a three-match suspension and he will miss the league cup final against Liverpool at Wembley on March 16, unless Newcastle can get the penalty reduced through an appeal.

Without their two big attacking profiles, Newcastle went into an uncertain extra time. There, a bitter end awaited when veteran Danny Welbeck decided the match in the second extra quarter and took Brighton to the quarterfinals.

Lindelöf Missed Penalty

Alexander Isak's national team colleagues Emil Krafth (Newcastle) and Yasin Ayari (Brighton) sat on the bench for the entire match.

Victor Nilsson Lindelöf came on in the 52nd minute when Manchester United took on Fulham at home at Old Trafford.

Calvin Bassey nodded in Fulham's leading goal, Bruno Fernandes equalized, and the match went to a penalty shootout after a goalless extra time.

There, the Swedish national team captain got a leading role he would rather have avoided.

He missed – as the first player so far – his penalty, and when Joshua Zirkzee also missed, the reigning FA Cup champions were out of this year's tournament.

Fulham–Crystal Palace

Preston–Aston Villa

Bournemouth–Manchester City

Brighton–Nottingham Forest or Ipswich (to be played on Monday)

The matches will be played on the weekend of March 29-30.
