Norén was not included in Europe's team for the Ryder Cup to be played in two weeks.
At the PGA Championship on Wentworth – the flagship tournament on the European Tour – the Swede showed that he might have been it.
Norén won the tournament after a playoff against Adrien Saddier.
It feels great, it feels wonderful. Incredible support also from the audience. You have your “ups and downs”, sometimes it's really tough and sometimes it's easier, and you have to take advantage when you have the chance, says Norén to Viaplay after the win.
The duo had both a total of –19 after four days of play. In the playoff on hole 18, Norén made a birdie, while Saddier got par.
Completely incredible. It was really tough on holes 17 and 18, I think, the weather is difficult. I actually think I had a bit of luck with the position, he had it a bit tougher, but I'll take it, says Norén.
The win gives Norén 1.5 million dollars, almost 14 million kronor, in prize money.
For the day, Norén went four under par after five birdies and one bogey before the playoff.
The 43-year-old now has twelve wins on the European Tour, which makes him the best Swede of all time. Henrik Stenson and Robert Karlsson both have eleven.
Ludvig Åberg went two under par for the day, and finished in a tie for 20th place with a total of –12. Åberg, unlike Norén, will represent Europe in the Ryder Cup.
Joakim Lagergren finished in a tie for 54th place with –7.
