Alesso had several major international hits last year, such as "I like it" with Nate Smith and the collaboration with David Guetta and Madison Love on "Never going home tonight".
"There are so many enormous talents in Sweden, and it makes me humble to be recognized within this community. Thank you to the Denniz Pop Awards for lifting Swedish music on the global stage," Alesso said in a statement.
This year's award ceremony for the Denniz Pop prizes at the Old National Archives in Stockholm was the twelfth in the order.
The Denniz Pop Awards were created to lift up young artists and producers. Tyra Chantey from Sundbyberg received the prize for rookie, artist/band, LKN from Heby took home the prize for rookie, songwriter/producer, and Kuwaiti LUJAIN was awarded the prize for rookie, international.
The winner in each category receives 100,000 kronor. The jury for the prize includes among others songwriters such as Rami Yacoub, Ilya Salmanzadeh, and Noonie Bao as well as artists Swedish House Mafia, Tove Lo, and Lisa Miskovsky.
The influential producer Denniz Pop was one of the co-founders of the hit factory Cheironstudion in Stockholm in the 1990s and created songs for among others Ace of Base, E-Type, and Robyn before he died in 1998.
