Carlos Alcaraz dominated against 21st-seeded Felix Auger-Aliassime. The third-ranked Spaniard is through to the quarterfinals in the French Open tennis championships for the third year in a row.
It wasn't a nail-biter between Carlos Alcaraz, 21, and Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime, 23, on Sunday afternoon.
Alcaraz won the match in three straight sets (6–3, 6–3, 6–1) and is through to the quarterfinals in the Grand Slam tournament in Paris for the third year in a row.
⨪ I'm very pleased with my performance today, I played at a high level and was very focused, says Alcaraz in Eurosport's broadcast after the match.
⨪ I know he (Auger-Aliassime) is a good tennis player and I looked forward to meeting him. We both played well today and I'm glad I won in the end.
Last year, the 21-year-old made it to the semifinals, but lost to future champion Novak Djokovic.
In Tuesday's quarterfinal, Alcaraz will face Stefanos Tsitsipas, who won his match against Italian Matteo Arnaldi earlier in the day. The 9th-seeded Greek's match was slightly more drawn out: 3–6, 7–6 (7–4), 6–2, 6–2.
This is the 9th time the 25-year-old Greek has reached the quarterfinals in the French Open.
Alcaraz has won all five of his previous meetings against Tsitsipas. For example, the Spaniard won a clear victory in last year's quarterfinal in the French Open.
