"This is not a decision that anyone wants to make, but we have a responsibility to AIK Hockey to take action when required," said AIK Hockey CEO and club director Stefan Gustavson in a statement.
The announcement comes the day after the Stockholm team lost to Kalmar 2-7. In their last eight matches, AIK has only won two.
"It is clear that we have not been able to utilize the capacity in our team for some time. We are entering the most important part of the season and new energy needs to enter the group," said Gustavson.
Hallberg was an assistant coach on the team last season, but took over the helm when Roger Melin stepped down.
AIK is fifth in the Swedish Hockey League.
