AIK's defenseman Alfred Barklund is severely punished for a cross-checking in the back of Modo's Sebastian Ohlsson in the hockey all-Swedish meeting on Wednesday evening.

Barklund is suspended for four games.

There were only 38 seconds left in the game, and Modo was leading 4–3, when the incident occurred in AIK's pursuit of an equalizer. Ohlsson was chasing to get first and avoid an icing, when he was cross-checked in the back by Barklund and thundered into the rim.

In the decision, the Swedish Ice Hockey Association's disciplinary committee justifies the punishment with "cross-checking at high speed towards the rim, the opponent is completely defenseless and at great risk of injury."

In addition to a four-match suspension, Barklund is sentenced to a fine of 5,800 kronor.

In the verdict, Barklund comments on his actions and says that he "feels genuine remorse for what happened."
