Vozinha became a hero after keeping a clean sheet against Spain, but said, with tears in his eyes after the 0-0 match, that his mother had not been able to attend the World Cup due to visa problems.
Hakeem Jeffries, minority leader in the US House of Representatives, says in a statement that there is now an agreement, anchored with Secretary of State Marco Rubio, to remove the visa fee equivalent to 140,000 kronor for the mother.
According to the British Guardian, which cites the AP news agency, Vozinha's mother is said to lack a valid passport - something she is now reported to be in the process of rectifying.
Travel plans are now being made for mother and son to be reunited in Miami, Jeffries says.
