The European Parliament is to investigate how the number of subcontractor levels in sectors such as construction can be limited.
The report from the Parliament's Employment Committee is to be prepared following a Swedish initiative due to the elevator accident in Sundbyberg exactly one year ago, when five construction workers died.
Afterwards, it emerged that 119 companies were active at the workplace, in five different levels.
"The elevator accident in Sundbyberg highlights the problem. There needs to be a limitation of long subcontractor chains and for me it is clear that Europe must limit it to a maximum of two levels", writes EU Parliament member Johan Danielsson (S) in a statement.
