Emotions were bubbling during the first match of the negative qualification in SHL, and it cracked loudly both to the right and to the left.
The teams offered their respective goals in the first period, and it didn't take long between the full hits. Only 82 seconds separated HV71's leading goal by Tommi Tikka and Modo's equalizer through Tobias Winberg.
Then it took a long time before either of the teams managed to take the lead through a goal. But when it finally came, it was the home team that did it. Much thanks to an effective power play.
"A good self-confidence"
After an early PP goal in the third period, Lukas Jasek thundered in 3–1 to the home team with seven minutes left. A goal that would prove to be decisive, after HV reduced to 3–2.
We changed a bit, swapped some guys, and got a direct response. Often it's not much more than that. You move some guy here and there, and suddenly you score a goal and start building a good self-confidence from that, says Karlin in TV4 Play about the team's successful power play.
"Pressure on HV71"
The final result read 4–2, after a concluding goal in an empty net from Sebastian Ohlsson.
Modo thus deals the first blow in the anxiety-filled match series, where survival in SHL is at stake.
Now we're putting a bit of pressure on HV71, and we'll try to take advantage of that, continues Karlin.
In just two days, on Sunday, it's time again. Even then, Modo is the home team, before the qualification turns to Jönköping for two meetings.
