The literary society Bröd och rosor arranged its manifestation to highlight the journalists and authors who were killed during the war in Gaza. The purpose was to honor those who were killed in connection with their reporting on the war, according to Balsam Karam, who at the same time emphasizes that she does not speak on behalf of all members of the society.
Our manifestation, which we had also written to the book fair manager Oskar Ekström about, had a clear and distinct structure, which we took from the manifestation the year before. Activists who joined came with their own posters and banners, which happens at very many manifestations, she says to TT.
”Worse forms”
On one of the posters, Göteborgs-Posten had been renamed Genocide-Posten, something that is criticized by the cultural managers of Expressen, Dagens Nyheter and Göteborgs-Posten. The journalists in question now risk being subjected to worse forms of hate and threats, writes Victor Malm on Expressen.
However, these posters did not belong to Bröd och rosor's arrangement, according to Balsam Karam.
It is very clearly stated on our website what we wanted to do. The only signs we had with us were signs that said ”press” and the names of the journalists who were killed, she says.
More demonstrators
According to Balsam Karam, Bröd och rosor had planned its manifestation for several months, but after the harsh criticism of Vänskapsförbundet Sverige-Israels participation in the Book Fair, more demonstrators also came to Bröd och rosor's arrangement.
The whole point of this manifestation was that journalists should not be killed for being accused of being propagandists.
