Two teenage boys and a 20-year-old man were shot dead in cold blood in a barbershop in Uppsala last year. During the trial, the suspected triple murderer laughed as the mother of one of the victims burst into tears. "You fucking idiots, you killed my only son," she screamed at the defendants.

The 21-year-old sits slumped in his chair in the secure room of Attunda District Court, dressed in the green clothes of the detention center. When the charges are read out - three counts of murder, attempted murder and aggravated weapons offense - he shows no emotion.

Through his defense attorney, he denies all crimes. During the investigation, he has remained silent throughout all police interrogations.

Behind him are his suspected accomplices. Three young men are charged with, among other things, aiding and abetting murder. The crimes include helping to plan the murders, handling the firearms and placing the electric scooter that the shooter used to escape, according to the prosecutor.

A man is charged with aggravated weapons offenses and aggravated protection of a criminal.

Laughing in the courtroom

When the prosecutor introduces the three victims during his presentation, the mother of the murdered 15-year-old breaks down. She stands up, turns to the defendants, and spits at the defendants.

"You fucking idiots, you killed my only son," she screams loudly.

The suspected shooter responds by laughing.

The mother is escorted out of the courtroom by security guards. Outside the courtroom, she collapses, is treated by medical personnel, and is taken away by ambulance.

She and the entire family wear buttons showing a picture of the slain boy. Earlier in the trial, the father looked straight at the suspected shooter without looking away.

"Crime as a service"

The prosecutor describes the act as a contract job, or "crime as a service," where the defendants were recruited through digital channels. However, no one who commissioned the crime has been prosecuted.

The investigation has not been able to show why the three people were shot or why two people were shot, prosecutor Andreas Nyberg says in court.

It was at 5 p.m. on April 29 last year that police were called to a shooting near Vaksala Square in central Uppsala. Inside a barbershop, three people - two teenage boys, aged 15 and 16, and a 20-year-old man - were found shot to death. The incident has been described as an execution.

One of the boys was a student at a primary school and another at a high school in Uppsala.

Two more people were shot outside the barbershop, but survived. According to several media reports, the intended target of the attack escaped unharmed.
