He is tied for third at seven under par, behind American Daniel Berger, who has a big lead at 13 under par.
Åberg finished the second round with a 71, described the course as "difficult and windy" to TenGolf. He had the most trouble from the eighth hole, where he had a bogey, to the tenth, where he made a double bogey. He was still satisfied afterward.
"My game is going in the right direction. I missed some in the middle but managed to get some back at the end," he told TenGolf.
He shares third place with Americans Collin Morikawa and Sahith Theegala. In second place is Akshay Bhatia of the USA at eight under par.
Alex Norén went under par for the second day in a row, shooting 72.
