After a shared 54th place last time, Ludvig Åberg offered a fine start, which is one of the signature tournaments on the PGA tour where the starting field is smaller and almost all the best players are participating. It is also the last tournament before this year's second major, the PGA Championships.
At least in 16 of 18 holes. Åberg finished with two bogeys and sank on the leaderboard.
After a round, the Swede is four under par in American Pennsylvania.
The Eslöv native was six under with two holes left to play, which would have meant a placement within the top ten. Moreover, the 25-year-old had bids on more birdies, but did not manage to capitalize on all his opportunities.
Instead, he finished weakly and sank to a mid-field placement. Keith Mitchell is leading at –9.
On the other hand, it was more positive that comebacking Alex Norén finished the day at three under par after a fine comeback with four birdies on the last nine holes.
Why then?
Well, the 42-year-old made his first tournament for the season after being plagued by injuries in his back, groin, and neck for over four months. Last time he played was in August last year, during the previous season's PGA playoffs.
It has been wonderful to spend time with the kids, but I have missed competing against these guys, says Norén in Max's broadcast.
