Aberdeen has had a tough start to the season. In the league, the team is second to last, and in the Conference League premiere, it was 2–3 against Shakhtar Donetsk.
Against AEK Athens, three points were almost a must – but instead, the evening ended in complete catastrophe.
AEK ran over the Scottish guests from start to finish, and when the referee blew the final whistle, it was 6–0 on the scoreboard. The loss is the largest in Aberdeen's history in Europe.
But in the midst of the Scottish misery, there was a Swedish delight. Niclas Eliasson continued his fine form and scored the 3–0 goal before the break – his second goal in this year's Conference League.
Eliasson played 26 minutes for Sweden in the first World Championship qualifying match (2–2) against Slovenia. Since then, he has not played any more minutes in the national team jersey.
