The punishment for serious economic crime has not kept pace with the increase in penalties in other areas, according to the Social Democrats. The party wants the maximum penalty for money laundering, embezzlement, fraud and tax crimes to be increased from six to ten years in prison, among other things.

We think it is important for society to highlight serious economic crime, which is part of mafia crime, says Teresa Carvalho, legal policy spokesperson.

S also wants to give the Payment Authority a law enforcement mission, which according to the party would make it easier for the authority to stop the flow of money to criminal gangs.

The Swedish Social Insurance Agency has shown that around 4,000 people who are active gang criminals in Sweden or are linked to gang crime receive their basic support from various types of benefits.

Recently, the government announced that the Payments Authority will not be responsible for payments within the welfare systems, even though this had been the plan from the beginning.
