Disposable batteries are to be replaced with more sustainable solar cells. The Swedish Energy Agency is therefore granting 130 million SEK in support to the technology company Exeger.

Exeger's solar cells are said to have "a lower climate impact during manufacturing than comparable commercially available technologies." They are also not dependent on critical raw materials, unlike conventional solar cells, according to a press release from the Swedish Energy Agency.

The initiative is part of the so-called Industriklivet, which is working towards a climate goal where Sweden will have no net emissions of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere by 2045. Since 2021, Industriklivet has been part of the work for a climate-smart society after the Covid-19 pandemic.

"The support from Industriklivet is crucial to enabling the industrialization of the technology," says Giovanni Fili, CEO of Exeger, according to the press release.
